The other day I received an email from Mehgan over at The Barker's Dozen, about a fundraiser they are hosting for Daffy, a 6-year-old Toy Fox/Jack Russell Terrier The Barker's Dozen is an eco-friendly and organic dog treat company based in Chicopee, Massachusetts (not far from my home town!). Normally I do not post stories such as this on the blog, but after reading Daffy's story, and seeing what The Barker's Dozen is willing to do to help her, I knew that I wanted to join in the cause.
Daffy's life has not always been easy. Found homeless, in poor health, and with signs of previous abuse, she was a rescue dog that needed a new start. When Ingrid (Daffy's human) first came across Daffy she wasn't sure the dog would be the best fit. But when she and Daffy crossed paths for a second time 8 months later, Ingrid knew that she and Daffy were meant to be. Sadly, Daffy now seems to be suffering from an unknown neurological disorder which the limited vet facilities in their small town cannot diagnose or treat. Ingrid cannot afford the cost of traveling over 250 miles to a facility that will be able to perform the necessary tests to diagnose Daffy, which is estimated to cost over $2000.
For the month of April, The Barker's Dozen will be donating 50% of the profits from its online store to help Ingrid and Daffy get the tests and treatments Daffy so desperately needs. Plus, any customer who orders and uses the promotion code "DAFFY" will receive a special thank you from The Barker's Dozen! There are all kinds of treats to choose from for your pup, from treats made with organic blueberries, to those made with peanut butter, to an organic cookie birthday cake! For those who do not wish to make a purchase, but would still like to contribute to Daffy's funds can do so using the Chip In widget here.
The Barker's Dozen also donates a portion of its profits from each sale to two local animal shelters.
